For the past several many years, I´ve had it in my head that I needed to go to South America. This was more or less an obsession ever since I lived with Magdalena (who hails from Santiago, Chile) in Brighton, England about seven years ago. As the years passed, I kept telling Magdalena that someday I´d visit Chile, especially after meeting more and more people who had been and loved it. The question was always, “When?” After several missed opportunities and “random” trips to India and Africa, prompting accusations of, “I thought you were going to Chile!” I finally got my shit together and booked a somewhat impromptu trip to the lower half of the continent. And then I got nervous.
