A Zip Line “Adventure”

April 15th, 2010 · No Comments · Dork Report

After being unable to sleep until 3am, I left my house around 7:30 AM on Saturday stopping first to fill up before rushing to drive up to San Francisco. A text from Gina made me think I was going to be late but she was useful in her usual way, and fell asleep promptly after sending me a message. So, by the time I had reached the Embarcadero, Gina and Leta had not yet left their place. I think I got in line around 8:50 AM.

What was this line for? Getting a wristband to come back to wait in another line at 4pm for a free zip line ride given out by the awesome Canadians. The wait wasn’t too bad, we kept ourselves entertained even though Gina “had” to bring her stupid dog with her who thought everything “rocked”. By the time we got those wristbands it was already 11:05am. More than two hours of my life squandered. At least I got some coffee since I didn’t have to worry about sleeping. But when I didn’t even feel Blue Bottle’s effects, that’s when I knew it was going to be an (un)interesting day of failures.

1) I left my house very early to stand in a two hour line.
2) Parking cost me $9 when, added to the waiting time, did not make this zip line thing so free.
3) I had to drive Gina’s stupid dog home which was not the first time I had to make an extra trip for one of her ugly dogs.
4) The Green Festival turned out to not be free as I had anticipated so that was skipped.
5) Lunch at the Green Festival was out of the question so we had to walk in the cold before settling on Dos Pinas.
6) A quest to find me a belt ended in ultimate failure.
7) Allergies were making me miserable all day which was weird because it was raining but apparently rain doesn’t keep pollen from messing stuff up.
8 ) Gina and I walked back to the Ferry Building and had a lot of time to kill before
9) standing in yet another line to await our doom. And then we got split up.
10) After feeling neither the coffee, fear, or excitement, I zipped lined across Justin Herman Plaza and felt nothing.

At least I got some nice pictures.

The view from nearly the top, notice the steps one must walk off to begin ziplining:

Gina looking petrified:
A panoramic view of SF Bay:

Nonchalantly walking off:

A celebratory drink at Little Chihuahua. The longass day was finally over:

Would I zip line again? Yes. I would hope that it would be steeper, faster and a little more exciting though. But, I don’t think I’d repeat the British Columbian experience despite how much I like Canada. Next time, I’ll pay.
