In the past week or so I’ve upgraded my Powerbook to Leopard, upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard and updated my iPhone to iOS4. Things are so much better when they’re running faster, newer and shinier operating systems even if the hardware remains the same (well, both computers have 1.5 gigs of ram now). I guess that’s my way of saying it would be dumb of me to spend money now on a new computer when the ones I have are perfectly fine. Before, they were slow and I couldn’t really watch videos on them without them being choppy as hell and out of sync. Now I can do that, not have to get those stupid “start up disk full” messages, enjoy the convenience of the upgrades and really appreciate how much faster things are now. Too bad some of my programs are incompatible.

No new iPhone 4 for me, even though AT&T said I’m eligible for an upgrade despite buying the 3GS just last year. I think my favorite part of iOS4 is the character count for SMS messages. What a stupid thing to make people wait four versions for considering it’s such a basic feature. I think it was a business strategy to milk AT&T users for every cent they could get but now that it’s here I will no longer feel guilty going over a text message by a character. The multitasking gets a little out of control since pretty much every app you open suddenly becomes part of the running applications – even if you only wanted information for one second. Maybe I’m just bitter because Skype for iOS4 wasn’t available and that’s what this 200-anytime-minutes-a-month lady needs. The phone seems much faster now but maybe the transition graphics just make me feel that way. Anyway, I like it.
